Interactive Installation
The main poetical idea of the project is that everything that happens is actually invisible in the past and still influences the behaviour of the present.
The aim of this installation is to visualize longterm-traces via an organic growing structure, that otherwise would be invisible to the user. This graphical output wants to make the visitor aware that there is a past in each space and that the present is influenced by the past. The visitor is trace-maker and trace-reader at the same time.
The whole project is completely processed in real-time, programmed with vvvv.
The structure’s look and behaviour is controlled by parameters, which I reach through infrared-tracking of the room. The data is sent in a defined period of time to the structure.
The structure itself is three-dimensional, whereby the y-axis is used for the time-factor, and the x/z-axis coordinates represents the coordinates of the real room. The structure is continuously growing and loses its visibility over time, like traces do.
More details on to the visual elements and their shaping:
The position of the Nodal points, to which the connection elements grow, is defined by the position of the people in the room. The connection-position, from which the element is growing, is defined by the structure using the nearest-neighbour-principal.
The visual appearance of the connection element is defined by the intensity of the movement, as is the growth speed.
The position of the people in the room is transferred visual to the virtual room through the digital representative.
The flowers show places with intense movement. These elements flourish and then fall to the ground, where they stay.
